On April 25th 2026, the SDGforHer Initiative team conducted its HerGoodwill Clothes Drive along the coastal road in Lagos, targeting women and families residing in shanty communities in one of the city’s most underserved corridors. The drive forms part of SDGforHer’s broader HerGoodwill programme, which delivers immediate relief interventions to women and families in underserved communities across Nigeria. It operates across three formats: a Clothes Drive, Food Drive and Health Drive, with each designed to address the immediate dignity and welfare needs of women who remain largely outside the reach of formal support systems.

A total of 978 items were collected through community donations and distributed on the day of the drive. All items were in prime condition before distribution. Beneficiaries were allowed to select items of their choice, and all items selected were bagged, a deliberate design decision rooted in SDGforHer’s conviction that dignity includes the right to choose.
| Category | Items Distributed |
|---|---|
| Women’s Clothing | 614 |
| Children’s Clothing | 246 |
| Men’s Clothing | 89 |
| Pairs of Shoes | 29 |
| Total | 978 |
Over 130 individuals were reached during the drive. While the HerGoodwill Drive is designed primarily to serve women and children, the distribution drew broader community participation — including male community members who attended to select items on behalf of their wives, daughters and children. SDGforHer facilitated inclusive distribution while maintaining programme integrity. The turnout reflects both the scale of unmet need in this community and the growing trust SDGforHer has established along the coastal road corridor through consistent field presence.

Beyond the immediate social impact, the drive carries a measurable environmental dimension. Every item of clothing redistributed represents textile waste diverted from Nigeria’s already strained waste management infrastructure.
| Environmental Metric | Estimate |
|---|---|
| Textile waste diverted from landfill | ~391kg |
| CO₂ equivalent emissions saved | ~9.5 tonnes |
| Avg. decomposition time avoided per synthetic item | Up to 200 years |
Calculations based on an average item weight of 0.4kg and INTEXTER/UPC CO₂ savings methodology (25kg CO₂ saved per 1kg of clothing reused).
The HerGoodwill Drive therefore contributes not only to SDG 5, Gender Equality, but also to SDG 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13, Climate Action.

SDGforHer acknowledges the generosity of every individual who donated clothing, shoes, toys and household items ahead of the drive. This outreach was made possible entirely through community contributions and volunteer support. We also acknowledge the women and families of the coastal road community for their trust and participation.
