In commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day, the SDGforHer team embarked on a mission to inspire inclusion in the heart of Makoko, Lagos. Unlike many conventional IWD celebrations that may involve brunches and webinars, SDGforHer took a distinctive approach, placing a profound emphasis on inclusivity for women in underserved areas. This initiative aimed to ensure that women in these communities have access to essential elements such as food, good health, and talks on the strength and importance of inspiring inclusion.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is not just a day for festivities at SDGforHer; it’s a call to action and a commitment to creating tangible change in the lives of women, especially those in marginalised communities. Makoko, a vibrant yet underserved area in Lagos, became the focal point of SDGforHer’s 2024 IWD initiative. Our team’s mission was clear: to inspire inclusion and make a lasting impact on the lives of the women in Makoko. Beyond the traditional celebration of women’s achievements, the focus was on addressing the fundamental needs that often go unmet in underserved area.

The SDGforHer team prioritised providing access to essentials such as food, recognising that many women in Makoko face daily challenges in securing nourishment. In collaboration with local partners, the initiative ensured that these women had access to nutritious meals, promoting their well-being.
In celebrating International Women’s Day, SDGforHer goes beyond the ordinary, embracing a mission that truly embodies the spirit of inclusivity. The team’s efforts in Makoko exemplify the commitment to ensuring that no woman is left behind, and every woman, regardless of her circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive.
As we reflect on this groundbreaking initiative, it serves as a reminder that the impact of International Women’s Day extends far beyond a single day of celebration. It is a catalyst for change, a commitment to inclusivity, and a testament to the power of collective action in creating a more equitable and just world for all women.
