Nigeria Companies Impacting SDG 5: Gender Equality

Gender equality is not merely a noble aspiration; it is an inherent human right. Embracing and realising this right presents our best opportunity to confront and overcome some of the most urgent challenges in our country Nigeria. These challenges span from economic crises and inadequate healthcare to the looming spectre of climate change, the scourge of violence against women, and the relentless tide of escalating conflicts.

It is evident that women are disproportionately impacted by these pressing issues, making their active participation all the more crucial. Women bring not only their unique perspectives but also their invaluable leadership skills and innovative ideas to the table. However, entrenched gender discrimination continues to act as a significant impediment, holding back both women and the progress of our global society.

Recognising this, it becomes evident that the attainment of gender equality and the empowerment of women are intertwined with each of the 17 SDGs. It is by safeguarding and promoting the rights of women and girls across all these goals that we can pave the path to justice, inclusion, robust economies that benefit everyone, and the preservation of our shared environment, both today and for generations yet to come. Several noteworthy organisations in Nigeria are actively taking action on SDG 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. These organisations are playing a vital role in advancing gender equality in Nigeria and they have spearheaded dedicated initiatives and programs targeted at women/girls. Below are some of them:

They also support women in various sectors, including agriculture and technology.

Nestlé Nigeria Plc through its “Nestlé Empowering Rural Women in Nigeria Project” continues to impact women to build financial security thereby improving their standard of living. The initiative assist beneficiaries in scaling up their businesses and sustain the new level of up to three times the size of their existing businesses.
